Erawan Falls
📍 Kanchanaburi, Si Sawat
A seven-tiered waterfall in Erawan National Park whose upper pools glow an almost unreal turquoise — you climb alongside the cascades through jungle, swimming in emerald basins where little fish nibble your toes.
Named for the three-headed elephant of Hindu myth said to be echoed in its top tier, Erawan Falls is the jewel of its national park: a staircase of seven cascades and pools climbing through limestone forest, the water a vivid mineral turquoise.
Why It’s Interesting
A well-made trail links the tiers, getting rougher and more adventurous toward the top. Many of the pools are open for swimming, complete with friendly little fish that give you a free pedicure. It’s one of the most rewarding half-day hikes in central Thailand — beautiful, refreshing, and genuinely wild in places.
Best Time to Visit
The colour is at its richest from late in the rainy season into the cool months, when flow is strong but the water runs clear (roughly September through December). Go early to beat both the heat and the crowds; the upper tiers thin out the higher you climb.
